I am requesting garden tools, such as a wheelbarrow, gloves, and hand tools, for our students to use in our school garden. We will be teaching our students how to use these garden tools safely and effectively. By learning how to use these tools correctly, it will allow our students to work cooperatively with their classmates and help develop team work within our school.
Many studies have shown that one of the best ways to improve students’ eating habits, their understanding of health and nutrition, and to significantly increase their test scores in science, math, reading and other subjects is with a school garden program that is integrated into the teaching curriculum. The knowledge students gain from a typical school garden program not only positively affects their test scores but also positively affects their food choices—and not just in the school cafeteria, but also at home and for the rest of their lives.
