My athletes and students are from low income areas. They can barely afford wrestling shoes, much less new equipment to use. They are hard-working, dedicated kids who enjoy pushing themselves to see what they can achieve. Although the wrestlers have different backgrounds and experiences, the wrestling room is the one place that they can all come together as equals. The majority of these students are first year wrestlers. In elementary school, our kids aren't introduced to regular physical education and there are limited sports available in middle school. As a result, many of our athletes don't come to the high school with the physical strength other schools in our conference come in with. With more opportunities to strength train and grow as athlete, they will be more successful.
