Research shows that for children to learn to read, we must give them access to books at their own independent reading levels. Students can check out books from the school library and our classroom library too. Due to this pandemic, these kiddos have lost valuable hours in the classroom. This loss of instruction has left many of our second graders at reading levels a year or more behind. Since our school serves only 2nd and 3rd grade students, we just don't have a big enough selection of low leveled books for students to choose from.
This project will put 126 more good fit books into our classroom library giving students a better selection of stories at their independent reading levels! When students are able to choose books that interest them, that aren't to tricky or to easy, they are more internally motivated to read the story.
Books from our school library are not allowed to go home with students. I can however, send a books from our school library home with students to reread to their families! I can't wait to see the look on the students faces when these new books arrive! Thank you in advance for the smiles you will be putting on their faces.
