I teach in a very small community with high poverty. Students are not expected to bring any supplies at all to school. The school provides many of the supplies, but with recent budget cuts, supply monies often have to go to pay for teachers or assistants (which keep getting cut) just to be able to keep class sizes on the smaller side. My classroom is the only kindergarten without seat sacks or a slot in the table for the kids to store their work and supplies. My school does a great job providing paper, crayons, journals, etc. It is like it's own little family!
