The spectrometer will be used in the AP chemistry, chemistry, and Physics classes. It will also be used in biology and botany. The spectrophotometer will help students envision the connection between the absorbance of light and chemical composition. The students will determine concentration of unknown substances and determine light intensity at various wavelengths. A spectrophotometer will level the playing field with hands on experience. Most of their labs require a spectrometer. My students have to explain a process that they have never seen as though they are familiar with it. This technology will greatly improve our scores On advanced placement tests (AP).
