In kindergarten, most students are kinesthetic learners. These learners need manipulatives in order to gain a better understanding of the concepts taught in school. Getting materials, such as LEGOs, pattern blocks, art painters, will help my students to improve in both math and engineering. They will be able to use these tools throughout the year in order to build and create whatever their minds can imagine.
Not only will this improve their imagination and creativity, it will also help improve their language skills. Since a majority of my students are English learners they need a way to practice speaking English in a nonthreatening environment. School can sometimes be intimidating for them because they feel pressured to not make mistakes. When they are able to try out their new language in a fun playful environment, they are able to feel more confident and willing to try.
