The students in my class represent a diverse range of ethnicities, languages, and cultures. I work with children with special needs and students who are talented and gifted. The large majority of students come from families living in poverty and many are learning English as second language.
Living in poverty exposes children to added stressors that can make school challenging--emotionally, behaviorally, and academically. Our school community is committed to caring for the whole child; we teach social skills and emotional regulation strategies while maintaining a rigorous academic environment. We take time to work hard, time to play, and time to relax and renew.
We are part of the International Baccalaureate Programme, providing students with an educational experience that is inquiry-based and experience rich. We strive for our students to become caring, reflective, active citizens of the world.
