Our school is a Title I school, meaning we service children designated as low social economic status and at risk. Our class features 5 third graders, 1 fourth grader, 3 fifth graders and 2 sixth graders.
One of my third graders is limited in his ability to produce sounds, decode sounds and read sounds, which makes it extremely difficult for him to communicate. However, he wants to, so bad! I am hoping that allowing him to use a tablet to go through all the various level of a program called Hook on Phonics, he would be able to develop those much needed decoding skills in a way that would not single him out. right now, he is using an old fashion tape players (while other students use tablets or computer to access other programs such as Mobymax). Providing this one student with a way to communicate would truly change his life! He has much to share, all bottled up inside now....
