My students attend a Title I school in which every student receives free breakfast and many receive a free or reduced-price lunch because they come from low-income households. Our classroom is very culturally diverse with students from all over the world. For some of my students, school is the only structured environment they have access to. We may be the only hot meal and warm place they have. I strive to provide a nurturing and safe environment for my students each day. Some of these students do not have books at home, so school may be the only place they are able to read. Many of them do not have access to many of the things we may take for granted, such as technology outside of school, or a parent that is able to help. I want to give them every chance they can get to immerse themselves into books!
