My students are ethnically diverse 8th graders in a high poverty school with over 50% on free and reduced lunch, and yet they excel and surpass all expectations. All middle school students are in need of support especially when it comes to relationships with others, and this novel will spark important discussions and issues relating to the bullying cycle. By connecting literature with their lives, students will see the timelessness of important themes, such as the abuse of power and the need for tolerance.
