My students are in an autism academy within a Title I school where the majority of students receive free or reduced price lunch. All of them receive speech therapy and most receive occupational and/or physical therapy as a myriad of resources available to them. They have a different way of perceiving the world and are frequently bombarded by sensory information that is difficult for them to process. Their decreased ability to process this information, an ability that naturally occurs within most of us, may cause an unwillingness and/or an inability to participate in everyday events.
