The center of my classroom is where we gather every day. It is the first place where students go when they come in and the last place they go when they leave. We use this space for our greetings, mini lessons, read alouds, independent/buddy reading and to reflect on our days before dismissal.
Unfortunately, the students are now sitting on the hard floor. A large rug will will give the students a comfy, cozy place to sit or lie down. A large rug also gives the students a defined place so they can focus on the learning task/ discussion without being distracted by close neighbors. They can learn and practice personal space.
