My students are diverse, but they all share the desire and motivation to attend college in their future. They work hard and they impress my everyday. I have students who are striving to be the first in their family to attend college, students in single parent homes, migrant students, first generation Americans, and economically disadvantaged students.
My school looks like a suburban oasis, but 47% of our population receives free or reduced lunch. We have students in need that hide in plain sight. This year, district budget cuts have made it impossible to provide these student with the tools that I normally provide for them.
