This is my 20th year of teaching and I am fortunate to have twenty-eight amazing and diverse 3rd grade students (14 boys and 14 girls). Eight of my students are second language learners, eight have been retained at some point in their educational career, and they are all eager and excited about learning. My elementary school is large, with over 800 students Kindergarten through 5th grade. There are 23 different languages spoken by our students and the majority of our population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Not everyone gets the opportunity to work or attend a school with such diversity. I consider us lucky and we work everyday, in our classroom, on appreciating our differences.
