My students are wonderful, imaginative students who are almost all on the free or reduced lunch program. Many of them are Spanish speaking students that are learning English as well. Our school does a great job in creating a welcoming community for our families. Some of my students have very few toys at home, and school is a place where they can learn and play. I want to make math fun for my kindergarteners by using fun manipulatives. It is important to me to build a strong foundation for my students. A favorite quote of mine is, "The limits of my language are the limits of my world." -Ludwig Wiggenstein. I appreciate this quote because it helps me understand where my students come from and the struggles they face. My biggest challenge in getting them ready for first grade is that they have very little exposure to numbers and literature before kindergarten. Many students are learning English as well. We have a lot of work to do to get them ready.
