There is an abundance of evidence that points to the fact that students learn better when they can choose how to complete their work in the classroom. This includes traditional desks as well as other alternatives such as pillows on the floor, wobble chairs, beanbags etc.
Flexible seating enables students to make independent choices and take an active part in their learning by helping them be engaged in their own work thus lessening peer to peer and classroom disruptions!
