A group of three teachers started an after-school club called "Making It!" teaching students to knit, sew, cook, bake, etc. With donations from various sources including families, knitting needles, yarn, sewing machines, thread, and fabric were donated. Students in the cooking and baking portion of the club are learning to cook and bake recipes they can easily duplicate at home.
Students are learning to make scratch recipes beyond cheep "boxed meals". They use simple homemade recopies to create their favorites including macaroni and cheese, salads, waffles, as well as things they couldn't imagine making including cheesecake, and no-bake cookies. This also includes students who have dietary and allergenic restrictions. Students have the opportunity to take home what they made including the recipe to make it again.
