Everyday I walk into my classroom excited to inform 106 young men and women of the new and advanced problems that we face and cause in our Environment here and abroad. But, though I am thrilled to see my students and start my day, my thoughts are darkened by the hardships I know my students face. Did they get any breakfast this morning? Are they able to afford new materials for class to replace the old? Did they find a place to sleep last night? Constant questions that I know my students are faced with each day.
It is fulfilling when you see the majority of your students interested and engaged in what you are teaching them, which isn't too hard to do in a science classroom. And it is science that will give these students the ability to achieve their ambitious dreams. They are motivated fifteen year olds, faced with great adversity and looking for an outlet for personal growth and success. I want my classroom to be that avenue for them.
