My students come from a variety of backgrounds. They are Mexican, Guatemalan, Burmese, Vietnamese, and Chinese.
Most are struggling with their core classes because of their limited English skills. Some of them have not been in school since the 6th grade. Those students have even more of a disadvantage because they do not have the foundational skills in common core subject areas.
These students have varying proficiency levels that range from limited proficiency (little to no English skills), to moderate proficiency.
For the most part, they are happy, hardworking kids who need extra support so that they can succeed.
