The iPad mini will be used to make student learning visible to everyone. The students will easily be able to video themselves reflecting on their learning. Currently, I ask students to complete a worksheet withe their self-reflection and next steps. write about their progress in respect to the success criteria. However, having the iPad already set up in the classroom would make it easy for students to record themselves. I believe if they are able to talk vs. write, they would be able to communicate more. Their self-reflection, learning, and next steps could be shared with other students and family members. Something new I would like to implement is having the students peer teach by creating videos where they are explaining how they completed the problem or how their work compares it to the exemplars. Later, students who need extra help would have access to student-friendly videos that they could replay as many times as needed no matter where they are, at home or school.
Donations to this project will help improve student reflection and learning by allowing them to create videos independently. With the new iPad mini, the case, and hard drive, the students will also be able to record in different locations. My second graders will make their learning visible to other students and their families for many years to come.
