The district that we live and work in has a high population of children that receive free or reduced lunch. Many of our families struggle to make ends meet and need a helping hand once in a while. Our school offers a healthy food distribution night for families once a month, a free daily breakfast for all our students and a weekend backpack program that gives some students food for Saturday and Sunday.
Our classroom is comprised of children that are completing the second year of a two-year kindergarten program. Most of the children are September/October birthdays and seem "younger" than their peers. The two-year program gives them the proverbial gift of time.
