I work in two elementary schools both with a large population of students. As a school psychologist, I work with students who are experiencing a variety of different difficulties such as: inappropriate behaviors, anxiety, depression, inappropriate interactions with teachers and/or other students, attention, making friends, respect, and so on.
These kids often have these problems because they either have a disability or have simply never had the opportunity to learn appropriate social skills. A deficit in social skills often leads to a negative impact on a student's educational experience.
My schools are both very proactive in reaching out to these students in order to help them to succeed. They work closely with teachers and parents in order to give each student a network of support. There is a strong belief that we can reach these students and the earlier we can start implementing these interventions, the more success we will have.
