I just began my fourth year of teaching sixth grade in an inner-city area! I taught for three years in Oakland, California, but now I'm back home in Virginia. I have known for a long time that I wanted to begin my career in a low-income, high-need community. I loved this school because of their commitment to keeping their middle schoolers out of trouble and pushing them towards brighter futures. Our students are encouraged to work towards college, and are taught life skills as well as academics. My sixth graders come from poverty, but come to school to work hard and learn all that they can.
