I work in a very diverse area, and because of that, my students have many experiences to learn from! It's a wonderful environment to teach in. Economically, culturally, and linguistically, my students come from many places and homes, to learn in my classroom. For a lot of my kids, being in my classroom is their first opportunity to meet new friends and be in a class with other children their age. Some students start kindergarten not knowing English, and so over the course of the school year, this is another skill they are learning. The classroom that I strive to create for my students is a space where each child feels their intrinsic worth, everyday at school. Creating a sense of community is very important to me, so that by the end of the school year, children understand how important their role in the wider community is. Students come in ready to learn and build relationships, and it is my job to help them.
