I have taught 2nd grade for 16 years. I am so excited to be teaching 1st grade this year. However, most of my books are for students who read much higher. My goal is to get my students reading the books that I have already collected. However, they need to start with books they CAN read.
Your support of this library will provide books they can read, help increase the students interest in what they read and therefore foster a love of reading. Our district is seeking to become a district of Book Pushers and we want to become the pushers of a greater gift than many of things being pushed on our students today! Many of the books in the classroom where I have moved are outdated and need replacing. While the students can learn to read, fostering a love for reading will be difficult with the books that are so outdated. It would be great to start them with books that they enjoy, about events and characters with which they are familiar.
