Though we're just across the bridge from Silicon Valley, many of my students do not have internet access or computers at home. Our school serves a diverse, low-income neighborhood--mainly immigrant and first/second generation Latinos, alongside Black and Asian families--in a close-knit community. We offer structured English immersion, bilingual, and special day class programs K-6. Our students work hard and are eager to advance their technology skills. However, we currently share one laptop cart among six 5th and 6th grade classes in three wings of the school! This makes it challenging for our students to get enough computer time for consistent, meaningful tech learning.
