My school is in an area that has seen a tremendous amount of growth and development in recent years. This school was once located in what would be classified as a very rural environment and is now surrounded by housing developments, strip malls, and major shopping centers. This tremendous growth has brought with it a school that is almost bursting at the seams and resources that become more limited as the school year goes along. I teach a class of 46 high school AP (advanced placement) students in the area of Environmental Science. These students are motivated to learn about human impacts on the environment as well as what changes are naturally occurring. One of their goals is to become better stewards of the land in order to build a balance between growth and development and environmental protection.
