Most of the people and stories in my school curriculum and classroom library focus on white history and people. I am going to use these books to make sure more of my students see themselves represented in the texts and people we study. They will also be used to help navigate important conversations around race, equity and inclusion. The people in these books will be integrated into our study of history and science, and the novels will be used for read alouds, book clubs and independent reading. My goal is that my students of color see themselves better represented in our learning and that my white students gain a more diverse perspective.
