We are a K-8 school set in an urban neighborhood with 100% minority students. Most of our students come from low income homes and are unable to purchase necessary school materials, let alone Science Fair supplies. Last year, our K-5 students did not have a science teacher and received minimal science instruction. Half way through the school year the middle school science teacher quit, leaving the students with a long term substitute who was not credentialed to teach science. So far, our students have had a very disappointing science experience. They haven't been given the opportunity to explore the world of science the way that it should be. Despite all of this, these students still come to school ready and excited to learn about science. They deserve an opportunity to experience the learning and excitement that accompanies a Science Fair.
