Standing desk are becoming more and more popular in many offices due to health benefits and increased work productivity. So why are students still sitting all day in school? Luckily most middle school periods are only about 50 minutes long. However, most of my math classes are a double period.
Sitting through a double period of math is challenging for the average student and it is even more challenging for my students with ADD and ADHD who need to fidget and move. Having standing desks for students to naturally shift their bodies and change positions would increase their focus and productivity. Providing students the choice to stand will give them the opportunity to become more self-aware of their learning needs and advocate for themselves.
