Reading "Grit to Great" by Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval will help students to understand what it takes to be successful. This is an idea that is not explicitly taught at school, but is extremely important for students to understand. I slowly came to understand the importance of this idea in my life on my own, but I could have benefitted if it had been explicitly taught to me in my formative years. My leadership students are at a time in their lives, 7th and 8th grade, where they are figuring out what they need to do in life to be successful.
