Innovation is the agent that propels us forward; indeed the copious applications available on today's technological devices can literally change lives, yet if we leave the vulnerable behind instead of facilitating their trajectory all of society is stagnate.
My students, many: on the autism spectrum, with emotional and intellectual disabilities as well as a variety of other health impairments including auditory/ speech disorders, and fine motor deficits, will benefit from the devices by using the array of amazing applications. With the requested iPads, the students with speech disorders can now communicate with Proloquo, those with dysgraphia benefit from applications that turn their iliegible writing into intelligible compositions and narratives. Finally, even the gifted, yet emotionally disturbed can ease the anxiety of being called on to speak in class by using apps like Kahoot.
I pray that our burgeoning Special Education classrooms will not resign themselves to mediocrity because the tools of innovative technology are unattainable due to budgets. Please consider funding my classroom for these tiny devices that make big things happen.
