School libraries should be a place of learning and exploring--and not just through books. Makerspaces full of technological gadgetry, crafts, and hands-on activities invite students through fun and imagination to consider fields they may have never considered before. Students can experiment with circuits, program robots, create beautiful art projects, and dive into learning on a level of freedom that is difficult to achieve in the regular classroom.
A makerspace in our school library would invite students to explore STEAM in a fun, enticing way. Every student in the school would have access to the activities that this grant would help purchase since the library is the one academic place in the school that is open to every single student all day long. Our school has not yet been able to create a makerspace environment for students to freely explore STEAM. What better place than to put it in the library: the heart of the school and the place that welcomes all!
