I teach in a Title 1 school in a highly diverse section of the city. In a school of 700 elementary students, over a dozen different cultural backgrounds or languages are represented. My class of 5th graders alone represent 8 different languages and over a dozen different cultures.
These students are eager learners and anxious to begin foreign language instruction in school. They are avid readers who put forth their best effort to complete daily assignments in a timely manner so they can have some extra time to pull out a book and read! Reading is important to them and my classroom library has quickly become one of their favorite places in our room.
