My students are from a low economic, high crime area. Drop out rates are high. Sadly, the probability of them going to college is dismal yet I expect all of my students to strive for higher education and go to college. I have 26 students and only get an aide for 1 hour a day. I have several students in my class with special needs. I have students that this is their first school experience. Most students have come in not knowing any colors, shapes, letters, numbers, etc. They do not get read to at home. Parent involvement is extremely low at my school. My school has little or no funding for a lot of the materials that we need to get our students started on the right path. I teach Transitional Kindergarten so it is extremely important to embed goals and a love for school at this young age.
