The materials I have requested will help me create a safe, welcoming space for students to practice mindfulness in the classroom. During the Covid-19 pandemic, many students have suffered academically, emotionally, and socially. Our schools are set up to focus on the academic portion of helping students. Mindfulness practices are a way to promote social and emotional learning in the classroom. High school classrooms do not always reflect a calming environment for these practices. The items I chose were selected for their ability to turn a classroom into a calm, inviting space for mindfulness. The yoga mats will be used for alternative seating other than desks, the laps and lights create less harsh lighting, the book will guide us through mindfulness practices.
Mindfulness in the classroom helps promote self confidence, self awareness, compassion, and better focus for students. Students are more prepared to be engaged and empowered in the classroom and in life. After a two year span of the Covid-19 pandemic, mindfulness practices are increasingly important. Thank you!
