These materials will make a difference in my students' lives by expanding on the types of books available to them. They will be able to start conversations and make connections by reading books that show them how diverse the world is.
This project allows students to explore the different people and societies outside of their small rural community, which many students would otherwise not have the opportunity to experience. Students will join literature circles with 4-5 of their peers and read books together to make connections with each other as well as other parts of the world and the cultures that inhabit it.
In addition to new book sets that will allow students to accomplish these goals, they also need alternative seating for a reading and speaking environment that is welcoming and safe. This will give students options of where and how they would like to accomplish their goals.
