The students I teach score the lowest 25% on the state reading test. They know they aren't good readers and by the time they reach me in middle school their confidence has gone out the window. They sit in my class and ask why do they have to read. I always answer with, "reading is the most important life skill you can have, without it your life is going to be very difficult." I want to spark their interest in reading again with handing them current best selling fiction titles to build their reading skills. When they've read a book they like they will most likely recommend it to a friend which begins a cycle of reading within their friend circle and ultimately infiltrating the fun of reading throughout the school.
