Broccoli, dino kale, tomatillos, tomatoes are just some of the foods we grow in our school garden. Our orchard will start to bear fruit this year.
The students love trying the food we grow and sharing it with their families. I want to take food tasting to the next step and do more cooking with my class and school. Cooking involves math, reading and social emotional learning traits (zest, curiosity, self-control). I want my students to learn that cooking healthy food is easy and fun. In order to do this, I need some basic kitchen supplies. We need graters, measuring spoons, a blender and other cooking accessories. This project will provide my students (and the school) with the supplies they need to do cooking in the classroom. The supplies will allow the students to work in small groups so that everyone can get a turn in preparing a food. Together we will show our gratitude for our food and eat together. My hope is that students will take this love for healthy eating home to show their families and together start making a change for a healthier eating lifestyle.
