My 19 third grade students this year are a wonderful group of young boys and girls. They are eager to learn and have a genuine interest in subjects such as science and social studies, especially being that third grade is the first year that science and social studies is part of their curriculum. Our elementary school is one of the largest in the county who has lost their federal funding program that targets at risk students. This is unfortunate for our school and our students. This year over 50% percent of my students are below grade level based on beginning of the year assessments. Our science curriculum is over 10 years old and anything needed to have hands-on science experiments in the classroom is bought by myself so this would be greatly appreciated. I plan on sharing these materials with my other two co-teachers; therefore, over 60 students will learn and benefit from this project.
