My school is located in the Western rural town of Parma, Idaho. There are about 400 students (K-4) and about 90 incoming fourth graders for the 2016-2017 school year. The community is well involved, as well as the parents, even if they don't have the extra income to not only help their own children, but other students in the community.
When it comes to lunch, we have over 50% of our students on the free or reduced lunch rate program. There are many students who have attention deficiency accommodations, as well as students on IEPs or require medication to focus. The fourth grade team has already incorporated exercise "stay balls" to help increase student focus.
Our students learn about 60 minutes of writing, English Language Arts and Mathematics. Fourth graders also receive an additional 30 minutes of extra reading and math interventions. Students would continue to benefit from learning focus exercises.
