I work at an inner city school where 100% of lunches are free and reduced. I have students who come in hungry, without clean clothes and tired from little to no sleep. A few of my students come from homes with both parents, some come from homes with grandparents and majority of my class comes from a single parent home. My classroom functions because of the culture. When they walk through my door, they are with their "school family" and we are going to take care of each other. The students themselves are fantastic - full of energy and spunk! They love to learn and grow! Each student has the biggest smile on their face when we celebrate the fact that they made mastery on their test, or that they grew a reading level! My class is tough and they are going to be college and career ready! They are there for each other and teach each other about character every day. I am so thankful for them and am nothing short of humbled to be such a big part of their lives!
