Students who attend our school are from a diverse population. The community's median income is below the state average. Many families participate in the food pantry at our school. The area is transient and it is near an Air Force Base. Many students move every few years and those that are behind never really get caught up. The student population has a lack of resources at home. Many students come to school without school supplies. The teachers often give students pencils, notebooks and paper. The school is a supportive community that wants the children to learn and grow. Programs are put in place to support students after school hours such as tutoring, homework clubs and even assistance during lunch. The students in my class often stay at school to get help with homework because the support is not there or they do not have the supplies to complete assignments.
