My students are a compassionate and lively group of 5th graders, and they are deeply in touch with what it means to be a part of a strong and supportive community. They have a firm grasp on the power we hold collectively, and our classroom culture is centered around supporting and standing with those around us, even when their opinions and beliefs differ from our own. They are passionate, persistent, and motivated by the idea of a better world for all. Although they are only 5th graders, they are eager to learn as much as they can about the world around them in an effort to affect change. Their continued efforts to become leaders is inspiring, and I aim to ensure it is not capped due to their unique and somewhat isolated geography.
