My students are wonderful kids that are vastly under served. Many of them rely on the commitment of their teachers and other community members to provide them with a higher quality of life and education. Over 90% of students qualify for free breakfast and lunch, and many of them live in temporary housing. A number of them have hardened themselves due to their circumstances and their neighborhood environment teaches them that school is not a priority. Despite the socioeconomic challenges they face in their young lives, I can see they have so much potential and are just waiting to be hooked. Overall, students in my school performed at 14% proficiency in state tests for 2015. We are provided very few resources to help boost our students' interests and motivate them. They are given little time to create and use their imaginations. It's time to tap into their minds and unlock the greatness that lies within them.
