Since teamwork and collaboration are high priorities in our classroom, we need an environment that encourages this type of work. Flexible seating is my goal and I feel there are so many benefits to this type of space. First of all, students love having the opportunity to sit where they want. This freedom is priceless and student behavior remains positive when they know their choices directly relate to how much freedom they are given.
This type of seating is also a huge energy outlet and increases student engagement. No more fidgeting at their seats and playing in their desks. With your help I will have 3 stability balls. When students sit on stability balls, both sides of their brains are engaged in keeping their bodies centered on the balls. So rather than squash a child's innate need for movement, ball chairs channel their physical energy in a positive way, allowing them to focus on their work more completely and reach their full potential as learners.slowly rock on stools and stand up while working together or engaging in whole class lessons. Along with the stability balls, I am requesting 6 Hokki stools. These stools are designed with a convex base, so students can move around while they are sitting down. This movement provides both physical and mental benefits to the students. While the students are moving, they are more focused on their work. Students can sway and wiggle while sitting in these stools and not disrupt the other students.
Another seating option I would like to offer are stand up desks. It has been found that kids who use standing desks along with other flexible seating devices are more engaged, and there is improved education, classroom management, creativity and educational scores.
