My focus this year is on Social & Emotional Learning. I would like to enhance my classroom’s Safe Place. The Safe Place is an area in my classroom that is equipped with tools for calming and self regulation.
This center supports the skill of composure. The Safe Place gives students the opportunity to remove themselves from the group when they are experiencing strong feelings. They go through a series of steps to maintain control of their emotions and remain calm until they are ready to rejoin the class.
These materials will provide activities for calming and self-regulation. These supplies meet a variety of sensory needs: calming scented lotion (smell), a mind jar (visual), sensory beads (touch), and noise cancelling headphones (sound).
