The students in my AVID class have been specifically chosen for our program because they are either the first in their family to go to college or because they come from a depressed socio-economic condition, yet they also have the 'individual determination' to go to college and be successful. They are strong willed and creative yet they struggle with study skills, access to technology, and sometimes even an area at home to do homework. The AVID program attempts to fill these gaps and help them reach their highest potential.
