The books I chose will support instruction in language arts, science, and social studies. Some of the books requested are in small sets so multiple students can read the same book at a time. Having students reading different books allows them to have conversations with each other and share what they have learned. By having various authors represented, students can choose a writing style that appeals to them and hopefully this will make them want to find more books by the same author.
All of the books tie in directly to our standards yet they are interesting, levels are varied, and designed to promote vocabulary development for all students. When students can self select books that support ideas being learned in class, they compound their learning experience and the freedom of choice allows them to develop a love of reading!
