Middle school is no easy task for most students, but it is especially difficult for students with learning disabilities and other special needs. These materials will be used in a resource room for 7th and 8th grade students. Our resource room is used for students to take tests, get extra help with academics, and do homework after school. We currently only have standard desks and tables in the classroom which is not an optimal learning environment for all types of learners. Many of our students learn and work best in alternate positions: sitting on the floor, standing, wiggling on a chair, or even laying down. Many of our students require movement breaks, but have no place to move!
We want to provide our teens with an inviting environment where they can learn comfortably and work productively. The rug will be set up under a coffee table, and the yoga mats will be available for students who want to work on the floor. The stools can be placed at any table and will allow students to wiggle while they work. The balance boards and elliptical machine will allow students to take appropriate movement breaks without disrupting other students or needing to leave the classroom. The fidget objects will help students who otherwise may be drawing on desks, chewing on pencils, or tapping their fingers. The headphones can be used alone for noise isolation, in blue-tooth mode to listen to white noise, or used traditionally to listen to books on tape or hear things read aloud via text-to-speech apps. Please help us create an environment where our teens will be eager and successful in their learning!
